Bayly, Christopher Alan Ο Sir Christopher Alan Bayly (1945-2015) γεννήθηκε στην Αγγλία. Σπούδασε στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Οξφόρδης. Ήταν καθηγητής Αυτοκρατορικής και Ναυτικής Ιστορίας στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Καίμπριτζ, πρόεδρος του St Catharine’s College και διευθυντής του Κέντρου Νοτιοασιατικών Σπουδών του Καίμπριτζ, καθώς και εταίρος της Βρετανικής Ακαδημίας. Όταν το 2007 χρίστηκε ιππότης της Βασίλισσας, δήλωσε: «Το θεωρώ όχι μόνο μεγάλη προσωπική τιμή αλλά επίσης, ως ιστορικός της Ινδίας, αναγνώριση της αυξανόμενης σημασίας της ιστορίας του μη δυτικού κόσμου».
